Textures, without leaving the editor

Texture Gen is a plugin for Unreal Engine 5, written entirely in C++, that brings the tools to create, convert and combine textures into the editor. It opens from the Window → UETextureGen Tools menu or from its icon in the toolbar.

The textures it makes become assets of the project, with the sRGB setting that PBR rendering expects: linear for normal maps, AO, roughness and displacement, sRGB for colours and LUTs. Heightmaps can also be exported as 16-bit PNG or RAW, ready for the Landscape tool.

For quick conversions, right-click a texture in the Content Browser: normal map, AO, roughness or displacement in a preview window, with the main parameters and a direct save.

Twelve tools in one window

The tools window is split into twelve tabs: from generating from scratch to converting the maps you already have.

Heightmap

Terrain from several layers of noise, with simulated hydraulic erosion and a radial mask for islands and mountains.

Noise

Seamless, repeatable noise: Perlin, Cellular, Billow, Ridge, Fractal and Worley.

LUT

2D or 3D lookup tables for colour grading, with contrast, saturation, temperature and tint.

Channel Packing

Up to four maps in the R, G, B and A channels of a single texture, like ORM maps: fewer samplers in the materials.

Channel Unpacking

The other way round: the channels of an RGBA texture split into greyscale textures.

Swapping

Reorder, invert or fill the channels: the green one flipped, for example, to go from a DirectX to an OpenGL normal map.

Blending

Up to four layers on top of each other, with eight blend methods and an opacity for each.

Curvature

Concave and convex areas from a heightmap or a normal map: wear masks on the edges.

Cavity

Cracks and micro-detail of the surface, more marked than the curvature map.

Height → Normal

Normal maps from heights or greyscale textures, with Sobel or finite differences and perfect tiling.

Displacement → Height

Bring a displacement map back into the 0–1 range: MinMax, standard deviation or a range by hand.

Patterns

Repeatable patterns generated in memory: Voronoi, bricks, hexagons and weaves.

Your harness chats, in your pocket.

A plugin opens DeepSeek Harness to a native Android app: chats grouped by project, the transcript with the tool cards, approvals and questions, photos, files and artefacts, model and access level. Over Wi-Fi or Tailscale, with no cloud.
