The starting heroes

Four heroes, four ways of standing in battle: one strikes, one shields, one heals. They are the ones the story begins with. Pick an Oath and watch them change: six steps, and a new look at each one.

Kael, the wanderer of Asteria: longsword point down, white coat and leather boots
DPS · Lightning

Kael

Wanderer of Asteria

A longsword and lightning: quick blows on a single foe, and every skill raises his critical chance. At the third one, the critical hit is certain.

Awakening

Tempest of Asteria

Eight slashes at random foes, then a 300% ATK blow to the target: every foe is left Shocked.

Oaths

0The start

Traveller's clothes and a plain iron weapon.

From the start

The game in short

Six things the game does, told the way you will see them on screen.

ATB turns

Everyone's bar fills in real time: you always know who acts next, and you decide whether to spend skill points now or wait.

Six Oaths

Every copy of a hero renews their Oath: six steps, and each one changes the armour, the weapon and the way they fight.

The Star Gate

The crystals open the Star Gate: every summon brings a new hero, with their rarity — blue, purple or gold.

Equipment

Seven pieces per hero, four rarities, upgrading and sets: what you find in the stages changes the battle.

Stages in order

Ten stages per chapter, one after the other on the map, in 2.5D dioramas: three stars to earn in each, an elite halfway and a boss at the end.

One thumb, in landscape

All by touch and with wide targets, auto-battle and double speed for the stages you already know.

Two chapters, two skies

Asteria is a city of islands floating above the clouds, and someone has taken it. The first two chapters climb from its ruins, covered in ash, to the gardens the forest has taken back.

The Ashen Captain, in black armour, his greatsword burning violetThe Ashen Wyrm, the thorned dragon of ash, boss of the first chapter
Chapter 1

Ruins of Asteria

Kael wakes beneath the shattered gate of Asteria with no memory of the fall: only a sword, a name and the hum of the floating isles. From there the road climbs through soldiers of ash and obsidian hounds, up to the top of the spire.

  • 10 stages, from 1-1 to 1-10
  • Elite: Captain of Ashes, 1-5
  • Boss: Wyrm of the Ashen Spire, 1-10
The Verdant Warden, a guardian in armour of leaves, her blade raisedElderbark, the oldest of the trees, boss of the second chapter
Chapter 2

Verdant Spires

Beyond the ash, a gate of white stone swallowed by moss and roses. In the hanging gardens the thorn sprites laugh at the strangers, and the oldest of the woods is asleep, but not for long.

  • 10 stages, from 2-1 to 2-10
  • Elite: Warden of the Gardens, 2-5
  • Boss: Heart of the Grove, 2-10

Inside the game

These screens are the real game, not an illustration: the battle, the Star Gate, the party, the Oaths, the map and the formation.

How it is made

Ethernal Drifters is written with React, TypeScript and Three.js: the battle is an ATB turn system with its numbers in JSON files, and the scene is a 2.5D diorama that breathes, jolts and flashes — the sprites are not animated, it is the world around them that moves.

Everything you see is painted: heroes, enemies, items, backdrops, and six sets of armour for every hero. The game runs as an installable web app, and the same build travels inside the app: pictures and music live on the phone, and it plays offline too.
